Each fall, police and emergency services personnel volunteer to cycle hundreds of kilometers on a pre-designated route through BC communities over the course of several days and nights, to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research and programs that help children and families.

Introduced in 1994, "Cops for Cancer" is a Canadian Cancer Society fundraising program started by Sergeant Gary Goulet of the Edmonton Police Department when he provided support and encouragement to a young child with cancer. Police officers across Canada have since joined the challenge to raise funds to aid the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer campaign was introduced in the Society's B.C. and Yukon Division in 1998. There are four regional "tours" in British Columbia: Tour de Rock on Vancouver Island; Tour de Coast in Greater Vancouver; Tour de Valley in the Fraser Valley; and Tour de North.

You can support the tour riders at local fundraising events or when they cycle through your community this September. To find out how you can take part in Cops for Cancer events, contact the Canadian Cancer Society at 1 888 939-3333 or visit our website at www.cancer.ca
